Specialisations

Dr. Frank Kesteloot completed his training as an ophthalmologist at UZ Leuven and subsequently at AZ St. Jan in Bruges.
For his surgical training, he went to the Tennent Institute in Glasgow.
Since then, he has specialized in surgical eye treatments, such as surgeries for strabismus in children, cataract surgeries, glaucoma surgeries, as well as corneal transplants, lacrimal duct surgeries, eyelid procedures, and certain surgeries for eye tumors.
For most of his career, he worked in the hospitals of Kortrijk, eventually becoming head of the department at AZ Groeninge.
He was among the first doctors to switch to the current form of cataract surgery using a minimal incision and topical anesthesia.
He was also a pioneer in refractive surgery, which aims to provide people with maximum freedom without the need for optical aids (glasses or contact lenses).
He served as a clinical instructor and trained several ophthalmologists, teaching them how to perform surgeries.
He was a co-founder of the Laser Refraction Center located in St. Martens Latem, which remains a leader in refractive surgery to this day.
Six years ago, he decided to leave the hospital after building his own surgical facilities in Harelbeke.
Since then, he has focused on cataract surgeries and other lens procedures, as well as refractive surgery.
These are procedures that can be performed perfectly under local anesthesia and without hospitalization.
He continues to further his education by attending national and international conferences.
