Tonia Goethals
Specialisations
In my practice in Harelbeke, I focus particularly on the medical conditions of the retina. You can consult me for the diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment of:
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
- Retinal vein occlusion, uveitis
- Diabetic retinopathy (retinal disorders caused by diabetes).
Patients with diabetes are welcome for mandatory and preventive eye examinations. I provide these screenings within the framework of the official care pathway and convention program, in collaboration with the general practitioner and endocrinologist.
Comprehensive eye care for all ages
In addition to my specialization in retinal diseases, I also provide comprehensive general eye care for the entire family:
- Glaucoma: early detection and careful monitoring
- General eye conditions: for both (young) children and older adults.
- Prescription glasses and general eye check-ups.
As a native of Roeselare, I completed my secondary education in Barnum. My wide range of interests eventually led me to develop a passion for medicine. I began my medical training at KULAK in Kortrijk and subsequently continued it at KU Leuven.
After earning my medical degree, I chose to specialize in ophthalmology (eye medicine). Immediately after graduating from Leuven (1992), I combined launching my practice at the ophthalmology center in Harelbeke with a part-time consulting position in Medical Retina at the university hospitals of Leuven.
